Roy’s Waikiki has been described as an “upscale spot for Hawaiian fusion cuisine”.

Located on the lobby level of the Cove Atlantis hotel, this oceanfront restaurant is the brainchild of Roy Yamaguchi, Hawaii’s superstar chef with four cookbooks, his own line of cookware, a popular PBS television series and an appearance on Iron Chef USA.

Great Ambiance at Roy’s

The atmosphere here is quite rustic, warm and cozy. Often, there is background music featuring traditional Hawaiian sounds. Designed by renowned architect David Rockwell, the interior blends motifs such as cow-print chairs with island-inspired elements.

In many ways, the interior and vibe is elegant but casual. The ambiance is comfortable, cozy and classy all at the same time.


Executive Chef

Roy’s treats its guests to choices from the hands of their Tokoyo born and raised chef. Roy attended the Culinary Institute of America in New York’s Hyde Park, where he was exposed to classical traditions.  Today, he has infused said traditional flavors with an Hawaiian flare that’s unique and tests the bounds of the culinary horizon.

Appetizers: There are certain choices that are best to start off with as appetizer. These choices are best as they’ll work on your hunger to manifests that sensory overload.

Such choices include coconut-crusted shrimp, sashimi, Spring Roll with Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Style Sauce, Roy’s Beachwalk Canoe Appetizer, Szechuan Spiced Baby Back Pork Rib and Mini Crab Cake with Spicy Sesame Beurre Blanc. The crab cakes are especially liked, some have described them as ‘rich and delicious’.

You can also have an appetizer platter consisting of szechuan baby back ribs, mini crab cakes, chicken spring rolls, shrimp, and a spicy tuna roll.


Entrées: Typical choices for the main course include Hibachi Style Salmon with Ponzu Sauce, Roasted Macadamia Nut White Fish with Lobster Butter Sauce and Braised Short Rib of Beef with Demi-Glace. However, there are a few sublime choices that are spot on, recommend without hesitation.

This includes the Lobster Bisque and Butter Sauce on the sides, Slow Braised Beef short ribs, Misoyaki Butterfish and Roasted Macademia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi.

The Tomato and Mozzarella Salad had and fried mutz oozing cheese is a great choice for children.

You will also find Southwestern-tropical fusion on the menu. This includes Rubbed Pork Tenderloin with bourbon and the Pan-seared Mahimahi with curry coconut sauce. The trio of butterfish, monkfish and salmon is also an excellent dish.

Then of course, there is their tasty ribs, a perfect blend of smoky, savory, and sweet.


Deserts: With such an amazing list of choices for appetizer and the main course, you can rightly assume that they’d finish strong with desert.

For desert, typical choices include the Hawaiian Martini, chocolate fudge indulgence cake, a slightly sweet vanilla coconut concoction with a booze soaked piece of pineapple and several types of ice cream.

It is not however the aforementioned that highlight the desert options. Undoubtedly, you’ll find it a difficult task to find a restaurant to beat Roy’s Chocolate Soufflé. Roy’s Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle is crispy on the outside and warm and mushy on the inside, it’s an absolute favorite here.
